The Apple Core Coalition, the educational component of The Kidney Research Institute of Texas, is a comprehensive community partnership designed to significantly improve the quality of education of children in elementary and secondary schools in the Houston Metropolitan Area by setting forth a voluntary education plan that sets high academic standards and challenges and rewards schools that achieve those standards.
The Apple Core Coalition’s goal is to form parent-school-community partnerships that will provide a unique opportunity for parents, their school children, and educators in Houston with programs and information that will enhance the importance of nutrition, dietary management, physical fitness, and education about kidney disease that will help prevent kidney disease in our young adult population.
The Community Partnership we envision with Apple Core Coalition will create public awareness of kidney disease, bring kidney disease to top of mind awareness to parents and educators in Houston, and share information on educational issues and needs that will help increase kidney health awareness within our academic community.
The goals for Apple Core Coalition will be achieved through a combination of resources from the education, business, financial, media, local government, and medical community in Houston. We have met with the leading Nephrologists and Kidney Health Specialists in The Texas Medical Center in Houston over the last four years and all are very excited about working with us to enhance kidney health education within the Houston School System.
One-third of the world’s population is at risk for kidney disease, including in the United States, according to the National Kidney Foundation. Apple Core Coalition’s goal is to raise awareness of the potential for kidney disease within Houston’s educational community and to implement programs and educational initiatives to help prevent kidney disease within Houston’s student community.
