Bill and Danielle Gottfried are the Founders of The Kidney Research Institute of Texas that was established to accelerate investment to find the cure for kidney disease in The Texas Medical Center in Houston as well as in research and technology innovation organizations in other areas of the U.S. and in international areas. The Kidney Research Institute of Texas supports investment in kidney disease prevention, kidney disease research, and technology innovation to improve the lives of kidney patients. One-third of the world’s population is at risk for kidney disease, we are committed to addressing this worldwide pandemic and improving the lives of kidney patients.
Bill and Danielle have family members who have died from kidney disease, including Bill Gottfried’s Father, Henry William Gottfried, Jr., CDR, US Navy. The Kidney Research Institute of Texas was formed to honor family members who have suffered from kidney disease and to support investment to improve the lives of all kidney patients. Bill was a caregiver for his father for five years while he was on dialysis.
Danielle Gottfried earned a B.S. in Elementary Education from Gwynedd-Mercy University in Gwynedd Valley, Pennsylvania, a M.Ed. in Elementary Education, minor in Child Psychology, from Trenton State College, now The College of New Jersey, in Trenton, N.J., and she holds a Reading Certification from Lehigh University, located in Lehigh, Pennsylvania. Her involvement in the education of youth, including health care education, led her to take part in many national and international organizations.
Danielle is an internationally recognized expert in children’s education and was the Founder and Administrator of Caravaca Academy, a private Pre-K-6 school in the Museum District of Houston (located at 1 Chelsea Boulevard, the current location of The Joy School), focused on advancing elementary education with students interested in achieving high academic success in early school years.
The programs at Caravaca Academy were featured in Houston on KPRC’s Channel 2, KHOU’s Channel 11, KTRK’s Channel 13, Warner Cable TV, as well as on KBRE Radio. Caravaca Academy was also highlighted in the Houston Chronicle, Houston Woman, Jewish Herald Voice, and the Mensa News.
Bill Gottfried earned a B.S. in Petroleum Marketing from The University of Tulsa, Tulsa, Oklahoma, a M.B.A. in International Business from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and he has attended Executive Ed. at Harvard Business School. He was Commissioned a U.S. Naval Officer at Officer Candidate School, Newport, Rhode Island and he successfully completed Navy Supply Corps School, Athens, Georgia. Bill is a Patient Ambassador for Dialysis Patient Citizens, an Ambassador for the American Association of Kidney Patients, and he has been a fundraiser for the National Kidney Foundation.
Bill has been active in the biotechnology industry for over thirty years in support of health care research. He has provided capital formation, executive search, and business development expertise to biotechnology industry clients in the U.S., Europe, and in Asia. Bill was a founding member of BIOHOUSTON and one of the first members of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) in Washington, D.C.
